Parents, Community Members and Friends,
Welcome to the M. C. Williams Middle School website. In this my fifth year as principal here at M. C. Williams I am still excited to be the instructional leader here. I remain undaunted in my belief that if the school and the community work together the possibilities for success are unlimited.
During the 2007-2008 school year we were on the road to being recognized and our students rose to the challenge to succeed. Our total TAKS scores increased significantly in nearly all subjects! These improvements illustrate what we at M. C. Williams already know – we are committed to student success and will not stop until we have achieved it. The 2008-2009 school year promises to be even better. This year, we are Recognized Bound! Building renovations are completed and we have a newly renovated main office, state of the art classrooms for our students, and a newly refurbished auditorium. Our building now provides an improved atmosphere and a more functional campus.
We believe that “More than a place to go, M. C. Williams is a place to grow.” With that in mind, this year we will continue block scheduling which is designed to give our students more time in class to ensure that they grasp the concepts which are being taught. Hurricane Ike caused us to lose valuable instructional time and we have instituted Saturday school for ten consecutive Saturdays beginning October 4, 2008 to recoup some of that time. Likewise, we now have an on-staff literacy coach to assist us in our effort to promote literacy across the curriculum.
Because our focus is on teaching and learning, our teaching staff receives quality staff development which enables them to continue to be the best. They are enthusiastic, well trained, highly qualified professionals who are interested in the welfare of the children they instruct. They both teach and model respect for authority and lifelong learning. Similarly, our administrative team is not just interested in discipline. They are involved in planning for instruction and they assist in ensuring that the HISD CLEAR curriculum is utilized in each classroom.
We value our parents! We appreciate the contribution that parents make to the Wolverine family and we solicit even more parental involvement. Likewise, our students are awesome! We have very talented intelligent young people who will likely become productive citizens. That is why we value the job that we do – molding young minds.
I enjoy the privilege of leading such a dynamic group of administrators, instructors, paraprofessionals, and students. I look forward to an exciting year as together we strive to achieve excellence and celebrate achievement.
Educationally,
